The Mom-Friendliest way to Decorate Playroom Walls

When it comes to decor, motherhood, meal planning, wardrobe… basically, ANY of the things… I choose simplicity for sanity every time. So no surprise that when the boys playroom needed some love, I’m looking for an easy way to do it. Breaking out the materials and mess for a painting project, installing a bunch of not-needed shelving, or turning my house into a dust storm for pretty new trim work is just not the kind of weekend project busy parents want to tackle right? Also, weekend projects when you live with kids are basically three week long projects LOL. But this blank wall needed to be dealt with! Enter Urban Walls.

I used them in our last home for Crew’s closet (see that project here) and in the first version of our boys’ playroom at this house. Each experience was quick, the decals were great quality, and I was always happy with the finished result. While I stuck with grey decals in the past I was looking to branch way out this time – all the way out to BEIGE decals. Can’t quit won’t quit the neutrals.

I decided to do the 13″ stars this time around for a simple, uncluttered look with big impact. The wall in our playroom room is approximately 8×11, and I used 3 packs of the decals for a full look. Keep in mind we have two of the IKEA BESTA units and a large Stendig calendar that don’t have the decals behind them, so if you’re filling a wall with no furniture in front of it, you’ll likely need another pack or so.

For this space, I knew I wanted a more relaxed and casual feel, so I didn’t want all of the stars to be totally symmetrical. That actually made things extra quick and easy! I literally just cut out my decals and placed them lightly on the wall using the backings to secure it while I went. I added stars one at a time, stepping back every few or so to make sure the layout looked right. For this design, I played around with the decals until everything was in the spot I definitely wanted before applying the decals fully to the wall, peeling off the backings off and making it permanent.

Alternatively, when I did decals in Crew’s closet, I opted for symmetry with Urban Wall’s grey mini polka dots. I loved the results, but it did require a little more intentional planning beforehand. Because it was a smaller space, the project was still easy and quick (you can check it out here) but something to keep in mind when you’re planning!

If you’re looking to upgrade a space in your home – especially a kids’ space – Urban Walls is the mom-friendliest way to do it. Easy, affordable, and the whole project can be tackled in one nap session with no extra hands needed. Kind of a mom dream right?! Here’s a little peek at the finished project; more to come on our playroom but in the meantime drop any Q’s in comments!
